Far Afield is back this Spring Summer with their Portree Smock, for the first time available in our shop, in vareuse mode inspired by fishermen, in a delightful Ripstop BCI cotton fabric. Featuring two buttoned chest pockets, a drawstring hood, a five-button leg, a square hem, and an iconic orange side label.
Ripstop cotton is a tear-resistant, ultra-resistant cotton, mainly used for technical outerwear (but also from parachute canvases to boat sails). It is recognizable by its typical grid fabric. Its resistance comes simply from the weaving mode, reinforced and according to a grid, which stops tears.
- Composition: 99% BCI cotton / 1% elastane
- Regular cut, true to size
Cotton is arguably the world's most important natural fibre, with the cotton industry supporting the livelihoods of 250 million people.
The Better Cotton Standard System is a holistic approach to sustainable cotton production that covers the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social and economic. Each of the elements, from the Principles and Criteria to the monitoring mechanisms that show results and impact, works together to support the Better Cotton Standard System and the credibility of Better Cotton and the BCI. The system is designed to ensure the exchange of good practices and to encourage intensified collective action to make Better Cotton a sustainable commodity.
The key principles of BCI are crop protection, water use, soil health, biodiversity, fibre quality and decent working conditions. All BCI cotton is produced on verified cotton farms. All BCI cotton is produced on verified cotton farms.
